  • What’s your favorite piece of gear on a back country canoe trip?

It’s a bit bulky and no good for hiking trips but I have to say the one piece of gear I never do a trip without is my Mondoking self inflating sleeping pad. I’m a side sleeper and could never really get a good night sleeping while tripping using some of the more popular light weight pads but with the Mondoking my hip never touches the ground. It’s also worked awesome for winter excursions.

Oh nice – that’s a good one! I don’t think this counts as gear, but I absolutely love bringing fleece pants and a fleece sweater. Kind of bulky and not really needed in the summer months, but I LOVE putting on fleece pants and chilling by the fire.

I’d also love my barrel harness (the Level Six one) – makes portaging so much easier.

Adding onto the theme of comfortable gear that you both had, my absolute favourite piece of gear is my Kammok Firebelly quilt. I’m a sucker for a down blanket. I have always completely unzipped my sleeping bag and used it has a blanket anyways and now I can tuck my dog into my blanket at me feet for extra warmth. Thinking about my quilt is making me smile 🙂

My patagonia wind jacket is with me on every trip I go on. It’s so light it can always be added and it makes me significantly warmer where there’s a chill and nicely keeps mosquitoes at bay in the warmer months.
