Let's Get Started

Welcome - it's great to have you here!

We’d love to learn more about you and your interests. That way, we can add trip reports and build resources that serve you best!

Where to Next?

Thank you for joining trip reports.

There are a lot of resources on this website. To ensure you get the most out of them, we’ve created this Get Started guide. This page covers:

How to find routes that match your preferences and skills

An introduction to using the Route Planner to map out your route

Where to find education resources to build your skills

Explore routes by location

All of the trip reports on the site are visible on a single map. You can scroll around the map to find routes near you, or plan your next big adventure by browsing routes far away from you.

Above the map is a filter you can use to find trip reports that match your preferences. It’s a little clunky to use (we’re working on it!).

Click here to view the map. You can also find the map by clicking “Find Routes” in the main menu.

Map your route dynamically

The Route Builder allows you to easily plan your canoeing or backpacking route. You can find it in the main header by clicking “Route Builder“. Click here to use the Route Builder.

Upon opening the Route Builder, you’ll be prompted to select an activity type and destination.

Then you can choose an access point or trailhead, either by clicking from the list on the left side of the page, or by clicking on the icon directly.

From there, start building. Hover your mouse over markers to learn more about them, click “Add Stop” or “Add Campsite” to add them to your route.

When you’re happy with your route, download it as an Excel sheet, PDF or GPX file.

Currently, the Route Builder cover 7 destinations:

  • Algonquin
  • Killarney
  • French River
  • Missinaibi River
  • Mattawa River
  • Frontenac
  • Spanish River
